Babymoon... To Take or Not to Take?

I'm trying spend time with my hubbs today since we've taken some time off together, but our plans to go out of town have been botched. We forgot we have a Lamaze class tonight! I'm debating if we should still try to do a one-day getaway or some kind of weekend away another time.

So my post today is over here, on my blog for Parenting Magazine's Project Pregnancy. I'm really hoping they'll keep me on after Spawnie is born so I'd LOVE it if you could leave a comment over there with your thoughts! Please and thank you!

Here's an excerpt:

59 days. That’s how much longer I have until my baby girl’s due date. Less than two months. In less than two months I will have the responsibility of taking care of a person for the rest of my life.

Last January we went on a seven-day cruise to the Caribbean. We went thinking that very well could be our last big trip before having out first child—Turns out that’s the case. We aren’t big travelers, and quite honestly, we’re pretty big homebodies. We’d much rather a night inside with pizza and movies than a night out on the town. Every now and then we try to force ourselves out because we know those outings will be sparse once we have a new baby around but we really just prefer each other’s company snuggling at home.

In preparing for welcoming a new person to our lives we’ve thought a little about a “last trip” before she arrives. A “Babymoon” if you will. We both requested three of the same days off this week so we could take a little trip to a nearby city. We—or rather I—had a few places in mind that we could tour, visit and dine at. But now that our three-day weekend together has come, we’re both finding ourselves rather comfortable with just having the quite time alone together..."

  1. Babymoons are a DO! We went for just a few days to the beach and it was really relaxing (and tiring for preggo) to do before the baby came. Even if it's just for a day I'm sure it will be nice!

  3. Loving the fro. And yes BabyMoons are a must. I will certainly be taking one if I have a second child. And if not, I will be taking a MommyMoon. LOL

  4. I say as long as you get to spend the time together doing something and relaxing and just spending time together, that's the idea. Weather it's at home or out.
I have two kids already so we don't get a "baby moon" but I did before my second baby. One day at the beach and the next day at home doing nothing. It was great. (was induced that week too lol)
    Hoping all is well.
    Hugs to you.

  5. We did a babymoon, but stayed in the area. We live in the southern part of the DFW area, and stayed in a nice-ish hotel in the northern part, and explored a different mall, got in touch with a TV station we didn't watch much at home (but our favorites weren't available @ the hotel) and just enjoyed hanging out with just each other.

Because my BIL lives with us, and we have my stepdaughter half the time, it was important that it was just us for a couple of days. We took it somewhere around when I was 7 or 8 months pregnant, it was wonderful.

  8. I think you should do it, too! It's the last hassle-free weekend you guys will have until Spawnie is out of the house... I mean, you guys WILL have time for just you two, but it will take arranging babysitters, grandparents, etc.
Go! Enjoy yourselves and make more lovely memories before your little blessing arrives!

  9. I just got back from our babymoon a couple weeks ago. I wanted tropical, so we went to Key West. It was perfect! I posted about it: http://christinaspostcards.blogspot.com/2010/04/babymooning-it-up-in-key-west.html

  10. I sort of took one? I'm in MA and (most of) my family is in FL, and that was the only time they got to see me pregnant. But is a family vacay really a vacay? I also went to Spain, thinking I had 7 more weeks of pregnancy, but ended up giving birth about a week before getting home. But that was a weekend trip... to Europe. I've done lots of quick trips to Europe, but they're not relaxing. I say if you can do it, do it. We're homebodies, too, but now that we have the baby (and she's no longer at a portable age), we're not going anywhere any time soon.

  11. Babymoons is fun! But always consider your now changing body and the baby's health. That goes for the hubby too. I remember going to a babymoon in Bali when my pregnancy was 6 months old, we are always the outdoor activities lovers, but to my disappointment my hubby still jetskiing, bungee jumping, rafting, diving, all by himself, and there I was, in the hotel bedroom, in a really bad mood. So if you're honeymooning, make sure you and your hubby can do something together and you don't feel left out because you're pregnant.
